PM: How can an Islamic govt allow dirty school toilets?

STATE POLLS | Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has criticised the Kelantan PAS administration and former education minister Mohd Radzi Jidin for ignoring the cleanliness of school toilets in the state.

Speaking at a ceramah in Kota Bharu last night, this problem should not arise in Kelantan because the state government claims to follow Islamic principles.

"Do our children attending schools in Kota Bharu, Pasir Mas, Tanah Merah and Bachok face dirty toilets?

"How can this be? How can the Islamic government of Kelantan allow this to happen? In Islam, cleanliness is next to Godliness," said Anwar.

In the late 1980s, Anwar, then education minister, began a cleanliness drive for school toilets. The current education minister Fadhlina Sidek has embarked on a similar drive.

Anwar said the matter was ignored by Radzi when he was the education minister.

"When he was minister, did he resolve the problems arising from broken toilets in school? No," said Anwar.

Anwar said that his administration had allocated RM1.4 billion to resolve the problem.

"What are we doing about it? Fadhlina is working with many departments and principals. They will have to provide a list.

"I want to resolve the problem this year," said Anwar.

Anwar was on the stump for Pakatan Harapan Kota Lama candidate Dr Hafidzah Mustakim and Tanjong Mas candidate Zinda Khalil.

An estimated 1,000 people were in attendance. Other speakers at the event included BN chief Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu. - Mkini
