PN to hold another Bayan Lepas ceramah, this time with Lau

Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin ordered the coalition to organise another mega ceramah in Bayan Lepas, Penang, this time to feature Gerakan president Dominic Lau and other leaders from Bersatu and PAS.

This follows a recent political kerfuffle which saw Lau
(above), who is contesting the Bayan Lepas state seat, allegedly snubbed by PAS from going onstage to join a ceramah that featured other PN leaders recently.

Muhyiddin told a press conference in Shah Alam, Selangor, that the incident occurred due to a misunderstanding and PAS has issued an apology through its secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan.

“With the lengthy apology statement issued by Takiyuddin, I believe there are follow up measures being taken (to address the issue).

“I have also asked for a mega ceramah programme organised in Bayan Lepas featuring our candidates including Dominic and leaders from Bersatu and PAS on the same stage,” said the former prime minister.

On Tuesday night, Penang PAS secretary Iszuree Ibrahim stopped the Gerakan president from joining other PN leaders on stage for a ceramah, telling the latter to leave as he was not invited.

Local PAS members are upset after Lau was named as the PN candidate for the Bayan Lepas seat - a Malay-majority constituency - and threatened to boycott the polls.

Iszuree was expected to be the candidate for the seat.

Muhyiddin told the press conference today that what happened in Bayan Lepas was an isolated incident and does not reflect PAS’ or PN’s attitude towards any of their leaders.

He also believes the issue will not affect the confidence of non-Malay voters towards the coalition.

“Since our coalition was formed, PN has worked as a formidable team without any prejudice. This is what we have been doing.

“Thus, I don’t think this one incident will portray how things will be in the future,” he said. - Mkini
