Sanusi denies summoned by cops amid reports stating otherwise

Kedah caretaker menteri besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has denied claims that he was summoned by the police this afternoon.

Responding to Malaysiakini on the allegations via Whatsapp, Sanusi replied with a brief “No (tak ada)” at 8.15pm today.

This is despite media reports stating otherwise, including one that cited police sources.

Earlier, Malaysia Gazette reported that the Kedah Perikatan Nasional (PN) chief is believed to have been called in by the police this afternoon.

This came after a no-show from Sanusi when he was supposed to attend a “Sembang Santai” event at Taman Serai Wangi in Padang Serai at 5pm today.

PN’s managing committee member who was present at the event informed the audience that Sanusi was not able to attend the session due to “serious security issues”.

“Our war commander (Sanusi) could not attend this evening due to security issues. He was already on his way, but due to ‘serious issues’, he is unable to be with us here today.

“But God willing, he promised to be present at another event at another time,” the committee member was reported as saying by the Malay portal.

It is understood that Padang Serai MP Azman Nasrudin, who was also present at the event, told reporters that Sanusi had been summoned by the cops for questioning.

When contacted by Malaysiakini, Azman said he didn’t have more information.

“That’s all the information that I have (that Sanusi was called by the police)... I don’t have more details,” he responded via Whatsapp.

Meanwhile, Astro AWANI cited sources as alleging that Sanusi was detained and Bukit Aman made the arrest.

Malaysiakini has contacted the police for further information on this matter.

On July 18, Sanusi was arrested at 3am and was slapped with two charges of sedition at the Sessions Court in Selayang over his ceramah on July 11.

Both charges accused him of uttering words that had the tendency to incite disloyalty against a ruler.

He has claimed trial to both charges. - Mkini
