Sarawak needs more skilled data analysts among its locals, as the state moves towards digitalisation, said Premier Abang Johari Openg.
Referring to data as the state's “new oil”, he said, the people should equip themselves with the knowledge and skills.
"We need many data analysts who can read and also do coding and decoding. We have the data, but we need to know how to translate the data through the encoding and decoding process.
“But data is something valuable and it must be protected. As such, we also need cyber security analysts to protect the data, the data that is the basis for us to move forward," he said when opening the seventh convocation of Universiti Teknologi Sarawak (UTS) yesterday.
Abang Johari also wants UTS graduates to venture into the field of robotics, particularly in the agricultural sector and chip design, where Sarawak is in dire need of such expertise.
With the use of robots, we don’t have to rely on manual labour, but machines and this involves the use of chips, he added.
