Stop using PJD Link as campaign tool, Bersatu tells govt

STATE POLLS | Bersatu has accused the government of using the Petaling Jaya Dispersal Link (PJD Link) project to campaign for the upcoming state elections.

The party’s Legal and Constitution bureau deputy chief Sasha Lyna Abdul Latif questioned whether caretaker Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari was manipulating the sentiments of Petaling Jaya voters.

This comes after Amirudin suggested that the PJD Link can be revived if specific "requirements" are met, despite stating earlier that the state government has decided to scrap the project.

“Is he playing with the hearts and minds of Petaling Jaya voters or is this unprincipled campaigning being practised by Pakatan Harapan and BN?” Sasha asked in a statement today.

She also questioned why Amirudin cancelled the project during the campaign period rather than at any other time, alluding to an alleged attempt to influence voters during the ongoing election campaign.

Subsequently, the Petaling Jaya residents have given the Selangor government one week from today to share the “requirements" as mentioned by Amirudin.

They contended that failure to abide by the one-week ultimatum would show that the federal and state governments show no serious commitment to reject future highway projects in Petaling Jaya similar to PJD Link and the Kinrara-Damansara Expressway.

The controversial PJD Link project had been the subject of public anger for several years, with the residents even hauling authorities to court over an alleged refusal to hand over the project’s documents.

The proposed 25.4km PJD Link was to connect the Sprint highway in Damansara to the Bukit Jalil highway in Bandar Kinrara.

Meanwhile, Sasha furthered her "manipulation" allegations by pointing to Rural and Regional Development Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's recent controversial remark.

Last week, Zahid was criticised for urging the public to vote for the "blue and red wave" while announcing allocations provided by his ministry.

As a result, he faced accusations from Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman of normalising corruption.

“These are the very electioneering abuses that Harapan and Bersih used to complain loudly about.

“Now Harapan and BN perpetrate the same abuses. We (Bersatu) urge them to stop this type of cheap and unfair campaigning and contest fairly in these elections,” Sasha said. - Mkini
