Umno should have remained with Bersatu, PAS - PN Youth leader

The outcome of the six state elections is the people's "manifestation" for Umno leaders to understand the importance of protecting the interests of the Malays rather than working with Pakatan Harapan and DAP, according to a PN Youth leader.

Utusan Malaysia quoted Perikatan Nasional Youth deputy information chief Ashraf Mustaqim Badrul Munir as saying that Umno should have remained with Bersatu and PAS, upholding the values of Malays and Islam in the party's struggle.

"Not when we (Malay-Muslims) are placed in a tight spot, insulted, we still stress that there cannot be any talks on religion, royalty and race (3R).

"That is not the Umno dignity that we know of," said Ashraf.

Meanwhile, Ashraf, who is PN's newly elected Kota Siputeh assemblyperson, said he prefers to do away with formalities and to be known among constituents by his name or nickname.

'Just call me Acap'

Ashraf, or Acap to friends and now his constituents, said he aims to bring a new culture of closer ties with the locals, from responding to their smallest individual issues to larger problems in the community.

'Outsiders can call me'YB' because they are not from Kota Siputeh. I'm here to serve the people, humbling myself and being their servant.

"So please don't call me YB. Just Ashraf or Acap, and for the elderlies, they can call me 'son'," said Ashraf as quoted by Utusan.

The Bersatu Youth exco received 17,180 votes and defeated Harapan's former Kota Siputeh assemblyperson, Dr Salmee Said, and Independent Abdul Ramli.

Ashraf, a former news photographer, hoped to foster closer ties between Kota Siputeh constituents and the media, particularly in Kedah.

Last Saturday, PN won 33 seats in Kedah, leaving three seats for Harapan - Kota Darul Aman, Bakar Arang and Sidam.

BN through Umno lost in all 15 seats it contested for in Kedah, winning only 19 out of 108 overall. - Mkini
