KUALA PILAH: Umno is unfazed by the decision of certain quarters who have expressed their intentions to leave the party.
The party's information chief Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said described the decision by the unhappy lot to announce their intention during the campaigning for the state election as attempt to divert the attention and focus of the people on the real issues faced in the country.
"To me, we live in a country which upholds democracy.
"Anyone who wanted to leave the party… that is their rights to do so. The same goes to anyone who wanted to apply to rejoin the party.
"There are people who are leaving Umno... There are also people who are joining our party," Azalina, who is also the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) told reporters after attending a "Tinjau Mesra" programme here today.
Also in attendance were Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Juasseh state seat Puan Sri Bibi Sharliza Mohd Khalid.
"Such a statement (announcing their intention to leave the party) is an attempt to divert the attention of the people.
"BN remain steadfast and we will focus to ensure our candidates win the state polls," she said. - NST
