The government has released the breakdown of how much Rahmah Cash Aid (STR) recipients will receive in 2024.
In his budget speech, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had said that the quantum was increased up to RM3,700.
In addition, he said STR recipients will also be getting an increased amount of Rahmah basic necessities aid (Sara) of up to RM1,200, divided into payments of RM100 per month throughout the year.
While this was initially interpreted by some as being two separate quantums, the budget touchpoints released by the Finance Ministry today revealed otherwise.
According to the document, the amount of STR aid for 2024 is the same as for this year.
However, the RM3,700 amount appears to be achieved when the maximum STR payout of RM2,500 is combined with the RM1,200 Sara aid.
The RM2,500 STR payout is for households earning RM2,500 per month or less - with five or more children.
Meanwhile, the maximum Sara payout is for STR recipients who are categorised as poor or hardcore poor.
For other households, the amount of Sara is RM300.
The same situation occurs for singles.
The increase in STR aid to RM500 announced by Anwar on Friday, appears to be when the RM350 STR payout is combined with a Sara contribution of RM150.
It is not clear when the Sara contributions will be debited to STR recipients who don't qualify for the RM1,200 aid. - Mkini
