PETALING JAYA: A 12-year-old boy was punched and kicked by his father in Kampung Perah, Gerik, yesterday – a day after the victim celebrated his birthday, according to police.
Gerik police chief Zulkifli Mahmood said the victim was brought to his stepmother’s house at around 6pm on Saturday to celebrate his birthday.
He said the victim stayed overnight and was supposed to be taken back home late in the afternoon the next day.
“At around 5pm on Sunday, the boy’s father went to the house and immediately punched and kicked the boy in the back,” Zulkifli was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.
He added that the 37-year-old suspect also brandished a machete, narrowly missing the boy.
Police said the boy was taken to Gerik Hospital, where he was treated for soft tissue injuries to his back and thigh.
The suspect was arrested today on suspicion of ill-treatment, neglect, abandonment or exposure of children under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001. - FMT
