Police have not received any report regarding Kuala Kangsar MP Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid allegedly being blackmailed into supporting Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
"We have not received any report (on this matter) so far," Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said in a brief reply via text message today.
Malaysiakini contacted him to check if police have opened an investigation or received any report on the allegation.
On Oct 13, opposition chief Hamzah Zainudin alleged that Iskandar (above), who is from Perikatan Nasional, had been blackmailed by the government and forced to support Anwar's premiership.
This came a day after the Bersatu MP issued a press statement saying that he now supports the prime minister, albeit insisting that he was still loyal to the opposition party.
Threatened with corruption charges
Iskandar had cited the rising cost of living in his constituency as a reason behind the decision and also to test whether the prime minister was sincere in providing allocation to any MP who supports the unity government’s policies.
Hamzah claimed that Iskandar made the decision after the Kuala Kangsar MP was taken to a hotel in Damansara where he allegedly met a senior MACC officer and was threatened with corruption charges.
MACC has since denied the allegation.
Following this, Anwar on Oct 18 reprimanded Hamzah and told the PN secretary-general to prove his claim by submitting evidence to authorities so they could investigate.
