PN urges Felda folk to drop nostalgic feelings for Umno, BN

PELANGAI BY-ELECTION | Perikatan Nasional Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari has urged Felda settlers in the Pelangai constituency to drop any nostalgic feelings for Umno and BN.

Instead, Ahmad Fadhli urged voters to remember that it was during the Muhyiddin Yassin administration which initiated a plan to waive the debts of Felda settlers.

"We all know that it was Muhyiddin who came up with the theory on how to solve the debt problems of Felda settlers.

"This cannot be denied, although the (current) prime minister is coming here to share all sorts of theories that he was the one who came up with it.

"Times have changed, (there is no need) to feel indebted to Umno and BN," Fadhli (above) told a ceramah in Simpang Pelangai attended by some 200 people last night.

Also speaking at the event was newly minted Kelantan Menteri Besar Mohd Nassuruddin Daud.

Anwar, who was touring Pelangai yesterday, had signed off on Felda's debt waiver scheme on June 29.

The plan will involve Felda borrowing money through nearly RM10 billion in bonds to cover the shortfall of the debt waiver, with Putrajaya being the guarantor.

Nearly half the constituents of Pelangai are part of the three major Felda schemes in the area. Although they have been mostly loyal to BN in the past, many swung to PN during the 2022 general election, mostly the younger voters.

Fadhli said he was aware that the older generations feel more indebted to BN and want to repay the favour through votes, but urged them to consider whether BN still deserves it.

He said BN and Umno had lost their way because they were now allied with DAP.

"I apologise. I don't want to attack or insult Umno, but BN under Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has lost their way and their identity.

"They are forced to share power with their enemies," said Fadhli.
