PETALING JAYA: A total of RM17 billion in grants have been distributed to 10 states that have signed an agreement on the restructuring of the water services industry, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

The money goes towards water resources projects such as dams, barrages and riverside water reservoirs, said Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, the minister for natural resources, environment and climate change.

Kedah received the highest amount with RM3.13 billion, followed by Negeri Sembilan (RM2.8 billion), Selangor (RM2.67 billion), Penang (RM1.9 billion), Pahang (RM1.72 billion), Kelantan (RM1.67 billion), Melaka (RM1.3 billion), Perak (RM1.2 billion), Johor (RM961.8 million) and Perlis (RM329.9 million).

Nik Nazmi gave the details in a written reply to Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man (PN-Kubang Kerian), the former environment and water minister, who had asked for a breakdown of funds distributed to the states that signed the water services migration deal, which was finalised in June. - FMT
