Five areas in Peninsular Malaysia have continued to record unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 9am today.
According to the Department of Environment (DOE), Nilai, Negeri Sembilan has recorded the highest reading of 156, followed by Cheras, Kuala Lumpur at 154.
Meanwhile, the other two areas that are in the unhealthy category as of 9am are Seremban, Negeri Sembilan (142) and Banting, Selangor (119).
Petaling Jaya, which recorded moderate readings from 6am to 8am this morning, has returned to an unhealthy level of 109.
API readings between 101 and 200 are considered unhealthy.
There has been an increase in unhealthy API readings since last Friday (Sep 29).
The DOE said this is due to transboundary haze billowing from Indonesia.
The Health Ministry has since advised the public in areas with “unhealthy” API readings to take preventive measures to reduce its impact on their health.
Health director-general Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan said measures that can be taken include reducing outdoor physical activities and using face masks when outdoors. - Mkini
