3 detained at Apartment Idaman unrelated to Zayn’s murder, say cops

PETALING JAYA: The three people detained by police at Apartment Idaman in Damansara Damai here have no connection to the ongoing probe into Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin’s murder.

Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan said the trio were arrested for drug use.

“Coincidentally, the three tested positive for drugs when we did the mass DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) screening, so we detained them to conduct further urine tests,” he told FMT.

Zayn, a six-year-old autistic boy, was reported missing on Dec 5 and his body was found the following day in a stream about 200m from the block he lived in at Apartment Idaman.

There are 18 residential blocks in the area.

Hussein previously said the police conducted mass screening of the apartments’ residents to track down Zayn’s killer, with DNA samples collected from 228 individuals.

He also said that based on the strangulation marks and signs of struggle found on the boy’s body, it was believed that only one person was involved in Zayn’s murder.

Hussein said that while several items detected during the second “door-to-door” inspections might be able to assist investigators, further analysis would be required.

“We need to analyse all these discoveries, and we are still collecting evidence,” he said. - FMT
