Amanah chief calls party members to unite amid leadership polls

Amanah president Mohamad Sabu today reminded party members to stay united amid its top leadership election.

In his policy speech at the Amanah Congress this morning, he said those running in the party polls should engage in healthy competition and avoid causing feuds among party members.

“I want all delegates and grassroots members to know and understand that our party is also exposed to the risk of internal conflict and disunity.

“This can happen if party members lose their moral compass, putting their self-interest or certain group’s interest before the party.

“Compete against each other in a healthy, transparent, and democratic manner as per (Quranic verse) that says Fastabiqul Khairat (compete in doing good things).

“I want all party members from all party levels - from the national level, state, our women’s wing, Youth, Warda, divisions, and branches, to come together and unite after the party polls are concluded.

“Like the Malay saying biduk lalu kiambang bertaut,” he said, referring to a Malay proverb about relatives reconciling after a disagreement.

Mohamad, also known as Mat Sabu, was delivering his policy speech as Amanah president when launching its national congress in Klang, Selangor today.

The presidential policy speech will be debated by Amanah delegates at the congress.

Included in the agenda is a special briefing about Palestine, where a representative from the Malaysia Consultative Council for Islamic Organisation will update delegates on the situation in the wartorn country.

Delegates will then start debating on motions that are to be proposed during the congress.

Amanah polls

Party polls to elect Amanah central leadership council members for the 2023-2026 term will be held tomorrow.

After the election, 27 elected council members will then decide on who will fill the party’s five top positions, including the party president post.

A total of 124 Amanah members have submitted their nomination forms for the polls, including Mohamad Sabu, two vice presidents Mujahid Yusof Rawa and Adly Zahari, and Kuala Selangor MP Dzulkefly Ahmad.- Mkini
