The Education Ministry (MOE) has ordered a school in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur to prepare a complete report over an incident of a Form Two student running away from their dormitory due to alleged bullying.
Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying said the ministry will take further action after receiving a complete report and conducting an investigation into the incident, where the 14-year-old student claimed he could no longer stand the bullying.
“It is on our radar, we have instructed the school to make a complete report to be submitted to the ministry, we will wait for the report before taking further action,” she added.
The ministry in a statement yesterday said it was investigating the matter and will ensure it is resolved as soon as possible.
Jetty upgrade
Separately, Lim said RM400,000 was allocated for work on upgrading the Chew Jetty and Lim Jetty in George Town, Penang to ensure they are safe and comfortable as a tourist destination.
The Tanjung MP said the allocation was from her office and the jetties are part of a World Heritage Site under the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (Unesco).
“The work to upgrade the jetties started last October and has been completed. This is very timely because this month, the number of visitors is expected to increase and the clan jetty area is one of the destinations where tourists flock to in Penang.
“I am satisfied with the work of upgrading the plank walkway because the jetties are often the focus of the public, especially foreign tourists, so we want to ensure that the jetty boards are safe and in comfortable condition for tourists.
“Now the only thing left to do is to install the lights at Chew Jetty, which could not be completed because the water level has caused these works to be postponed,” she said after inspecting the two jetties today.
Apart from the Chew and Lim jetties, four other jetties connect the island to floating villages - Tan, Lee, Yeoh, and ‘Mixed Clan’ jetties.
The jetties of the fishing villages on the seafront are often the focus of foreign tourists, especially from China and Singapore.
