GEORGE TOWN: The boardwalks of the Chew Jetty and Lim Jetty off Weld Quay here have been upgraded to ensure they are safe and comfortable for use by tourists, Tanjung MP Lim Hui Ying said today.

She said the work to upgrade the jetties started in October and had been completed, Bernama reported.

“This is very timely because the number of visitors is expected to increase in December and the clan jetty area is one of the destinations where tourists flock to,” she said.

“Now the only thing left to do is to instal the lights at Chew Jetty, which could not be completed because the tides caused these works to be postponed,” she said after conducting an inspection at the two jetties today.

The work on the boardwalks was carried out with an allocation from the Tanjung MP’s constituency funds.

Apart from Chew Jetty and Lim Jetty, there are four other jetties connecting floating villages whose residents are from the Tan, Lee and Yeoh clans, and another called Mixed Clan Jetty.

The jetties are part of the Unesco World Heritage Site in George Town. - FMT
