Dzulkefly Ahmad (left) edged out Amanah communications director Khalid Samad by just one vote, the latter having received a total of 899 votes.

KLANG: Amanah’s strategy director Dzulkefly Ahmad secured the highest number of votes in today’s race for a spot in the 27-member Amanah national leadership committee today.

Dzulkefly, who is also health minister, came in first with 900 votes during the polling earlier.

He edged out Amanah communications director Khalid Samad by just one vote, the latter having received a total of 899 votes.

Mohamad Sabu, who is the incumbent party president, came in eighth place with 613 votes.

Meanwhile, Shah Alam MP Azli Yusof came in third with 743 votes, followed by Amanah vice-president Mujahid Yusof Rawa with 699 votes.

Amanah vice-president Mahfuz Omar, who is the former Pokok Sena MP, secured 694 votes, followed by Pulai MP Suhaizan Kaiat (682) and former Melaka chief minister Adly Zahari (643).

Hulu Langat MP Sany Hamzan also made the cut, with 520 votes in 14th place.

With the exception of Johor Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Aminolhuda Hassan, nearly all members of the current national leadership committee retained their positions in today’s elections.

Mazlan Aliman, a former Amanah central committee member who recently announced his return to active politics, failed to secure a spot as he came in 28th place.

Newcomer Anfaal Saari, who is the Selangor executive councillor for women and social welfare, joined the lineup with 515 votes.

The 1,003 Amanah delegates cast their votes for the 27 national leadership committee members out of a list of 98 nominees contesting at the party’s national convention held at Wyndham Acmar Klang here.

The election today was held to appoint the speaker, deputy speaker, auditor and the 27 committee members.

The party’s top five, namely the president, deputy president and three vice-presidents, will be appointed by the 27 shortlisted committee members at a private meeting later. - FMT
