Umno supreme council member Lokman Noor Adam is seeking for the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) to review the contempt case against him linked to the RM2.27 billion 1MDB corruption case.
As a result, the Federal Court this morning postponed to Feb 14 the hearing of Lokman's appeal to quash a lower court ruling that imposed a one-month jail sentence against him linked to the ongoing graft trial against former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.
Lokman's lead defence counsel Muhammad Shafee Abdullah informed the apex bench chaired by Mohamad Zabidin Mohd Diah that they have just sent the letter of representation to AGC.
Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar confirmed that AGC has just received the representation, adding that they need time to peruse the document.
The prosecutor said that they have no objections to the bid by Lokman's lawyers to vacate the appeal hearing today.
The apex bench, also comprising member judges Zabariah Mohd Yusof and Harmindar Singh Dhaliwal, then deferred hearing to Feb 14.
On July 15, 2021, 1MDB trial judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah found Lokman (above) to be in contempt and sentenced him to one month in jail over the politician’s alleged threat against Najib’s former special officer Amhari Efendi Nazaruddin.
Amhari was the eighth prosecution witness in Najib’s 1MDB graft trial being heard before the Kuala Lumpur High Court.
The prosecution contended that Lokman’s threat was made via a police report lodged at 3.24pm on Sept 25, 2019, as well as a media statement he issued at 6.33pm the same day and recorded in video format.
The Court of Appeal upheld the committal ruling against Lokman on Oct 26 last year. - Mkini
