GEORGE TOWN: Kepala Batas MP Siti Mastura Muhammad says she will seek legal advice after the circulation of a fake poster seeking donations to cover the cost of defamation suits brought by DAP leaders.
In the viral poster, the Penang PAS women’s wing purportedly sought public donations to help cover “management costs for Mastura’s anticipated initial defence, which are expected to exceed RM30,000”.
“We will leave it to our lawyers to decide,” Mastura told FMT when asked if she and the Penang PAS women’s wing would lodge a police report on the fake poster.
The wing also issued a statement on Sunday denying it had issued the poster. Mastura is the wing’s central committee member.
On Nov 29, DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang, party chairman Lim Guan Eng, and party vice-chairman Teresa Kok filed separate defamation suits against Mastura for alleging they were related to former Communist Party of Malaya leader Chin Peng and late Singapore prime minister Lee Kuan Yew.
In the suits filed by Messrs SN Nair & Partners in the Penang High Court on Nov 21, the DAP trio sought damages for both libel and slander against Mastura for damaging their reputations.
The trio also asked the High Court to issue an injunction preventing Mastura from uttering, writing, publishing or distributing the same or similar statements.
She is alleged to have made the remarks during a speech in Kemaman, Terengganu, on Nov 4. - FMT
