PETALING JAYA: Mazlan Aliman, a former Amanah leader who left the party to focus on activism, will mark his return to active politics by contesting for a seat in the central committee this weekend.
Mazlan, who was an Amanah central committee member before stepping away from politics, said he aimed to help bring back Malay voters, especially Felda settlers, into the party’s fold, which he did in the 14th general election.
“After keeping a low profile in the political scene and focusing on NGO work, it’s time for a comeback,” he said, referring to Persatuan Anak Peneroka Felda Kebangsaan (Anak), which represents the second and third generations of Felda settlers.
He is Anak’s adviser.
“As one of Amanah’s founders, it is time to revive the push for agriculture and Felda-related issues which my colleagues and I have been championing for the last 30 years,” he said.
There are 27 spots in the central committee up for grabs for the 2023/2026 term.
Mazlan was appointed as the Farmers’ Organisation Authority chairman in 2018, a post he held until 2020. He subsequently stepped down as an Amanah central committee member.
In October last year, Mazlan, a Johor Amanah central committee member, criticised the party leadership, labelling them “weak” when it came to seat negotiations.
He slammed the leadership after the party lost out on seats to DAP and Muda in the 15th general election. - FMT
