MNCF to conduct own hearing after cops clear coach in harassment case

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) will conduct a disciplinary hearing following the conclusion of a police investigation into a sexual harassment allegation involving a national mountain bike coach and a female national rider.

MNCF acting deputy president Amarjit Singh said both parties will be called, along with their witnesses.

“I don’t want to pre-empt and say if he is guilty or not guilty,” he told FMT.

“Under the disciplinary board’s rules, there is a range of actions that can be taken against any person who has breached disciplinary matters, including withdrawing their licence and terminating their services.”

Amarjit, who was reported by New Straits Times as saying that MNCF received a letter from the police last week clearing the coach, said the federation aims to bring closure to the matter as it has been lingering for the past few months.

“I hope to do something within the first three weeks of January,” he said.

His statement comes in the wake of reports that the deputy public prosecutor’s office will not charge the coach with any wrongdoing following a police investigation.

It was reported that the DPP’s decision followed the receipt of a letter on the investigation, dated Nov 23, by Putrajaya police chief A Asmadi Abdul Aziz.

The controversy started in April when the female national MTB rider filed a police report following an incident during a training session, after which MNCF suspended the coach.

The coach, who had been training the squad for the Phnom Penh Sea Games, resigned following the rider’s allegation. - FMT
