Pastor Raymond Koh’s wife has testified that her husband’s 2017 enforced disappearance was similar to a 2010 police operation that detained Kelantan prince Tengku Muhammad Fakhry Petra.
Susanna Liew Sow Yoke told the Kuala Lumpur High Court today that Koh’s abduction showed similar features to the incident involving the royalty, namely the presence of multiple sport utility vehicles (SUV) and police officers wearing balaclavas.
During the hearing of her lawsuit against the police and government over Koh’s enforced disappearance, Liew pointed out that closed circuit television camera (CCTV) recordings of her husband’s abduction showed striking similarity with the video of the Kelantan prince’s incident.
“It shows a similar modus operandi of the police operation, which involved SUVs stopping the (Kelantan) sultan’s vehicle just like my husband’s vehicle was stopped.
“There was also a group of men in black outfits with balaclavas surrounding the vehicle similar to that of my husband’s abduction.
“One of the abductors got into the driver’s seat and drove the car away and someone was taking a video of the whole abduction, similar to that of my husband’s abduction,” she said.
“To me, it is clear. It was the same modus operandi and I believe it was a well-organised trained police personnel with access to this type of vehicle who carried out both abductions,” Liew (above) said.
Hearing before judicial commissioner Su Tiang Joo is set to resume this afternoon and on Thursday.
On May 4, 2010, the police arrested Fakhry while in a car at the main gate of Istana Mahkota, Kubang Kerian, as it was heading for the airport.
The Kelantan prince later lodged a lawsuit against the police over alleged wrongful arrest. However, the civil court struck out the action on Oct 17, 2014.
Civil action
Liew, 67, is suing the police and government to reveal the whereabouts of Koh, 68, who was abducted on Feb 13, 2017.
Liew launched the civil action, following Suhakam’s finding on April 3, 2019 that Koh’s abduction was an enforced disappearance that involved the Special Branch from Bukit Aman.
