Cabinet reshuffle: What politicians say

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim unveiled his much-anticipated cabinet reshuffle earlier today.

The reshuffle saw several lawmakers booted out, while others shifted to new portfolios.

In addition, there were also comebacks and some new faces introduced to the lineup.

Here is a compilation of reactions to the reshuffle that Malaysiakini came across:

Dzulkefly Ahmad: Reappointed as health minister.

The Amanah lawmaker (above) thanked Anwar for the opportunity and said he is ready to “bounce back” after a hiatus.

Lim Hui Ying: Moved from deputy education minister to deputy finance minister.

The DAP leader also thanked the prime minister and vowed to do her “level best” in her new role.

Azalina Othman Said: Retained as minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform).

The Umno leader thanked Anwar and his deputy Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for their trust in letting her keep her job.

On the other side of the political divide, opposition leaders slammed the reshuffle.

PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari: ‘PM is always right’

Ahmad Fadhli decried alleged double standards in Anwar’s number of appointments to the cabinet. This was about the lineup having 60 lawmakers, up from the previous 55.

Anwar said the current numbers are still lower than the 70 lawmakers under the Perikatan Nasional administration.

Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal: ‘Cabaret’

The Bersatu Youth chief posted this cryptic message on Facebook, shortly after Anwar unveiled his reshuffled cabinet. - Mkini
