Perak PKR vice chairperson Muhamad Arafat Varisai Mahamad has claimed that at least three opposition assemblypersons are supporting the Pakatan Harapan-BN state government.
However, state opposition leader Razman Zakaria described this as “cheap political provocation”.
Media reports quoted Arafat as telling reporters in Ipoh that two of the assemblypersons had met him last month and this month to state their desire to “help the people by strengthening the state government”.
The PKR leader, who refused to reveal the names of the assemblypersons, said the three would not leave their respective parties.
“They will remain in their parties and will not cross (sit with the government bloc in the state legislative assembly).
“It is more towards supporting the leadership of Perak Menteri Besar Saarani Mohamad,” added.
Arafat (above) said the three assemblypersons are confident in the menteri besar and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership at both the state and federal levels.
At present, Harapan and BN have 33 seats whereas PN has 26 in Perak. DAP has the highest number of seats at 18 whereas PAS has 17.
In dismissing Arafat’s claim, Razman told a separate press conference that PN has no information about this.
“We don't have any information and if there is anyone from the opposition who wants to support the government, it doesn't make any changes.
“We don't tolerate this kind of cheap political provocation, there is no interest for the country, we don't tolerate it. Let him name the accused and we on the opposition side are still strong,” he was quoted as saying.
At the federal level, five PN MPs had openly expressed their support for Anwar. This included two from Perak, Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) and Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang). - Mkini
