Police to gather more evidence before deciding on arresting Agus

Police will determine whether to arrest former Community Communications Department (J-Kom) director-general Mohammad Agus Yusoff after gathering more evidence in a sexual harassment case against him.

According to Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain, police are still working on investigations involving Agus and J-Kom officer Abdul Wahab Abdul Kadir Jilani.

They include obtaining further statements and technical reports from the internet regulator and telecommunication companies.

"Police will summon anyone who can assist in our investigations. The decision on whether Agus (above) will be arrested or otherwise will depend on our investigation findings.

"At this juncture, police are still carrying out investigations to gather material evidence related to allegations made (in the cases)," he said in a text message.

Malaysiakini contacted the top police officer to get the latest update on the cases.

Razarudin said police have referred their investigation papers to the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) on Friday, and had since received several further instructions towards completing the probes.

Police expect to re-submit the papers soon after they complete the instructions, including getting reports from the Communications and Multimedia Commission.

The IGP also assured the public that their investigations are aimed at establishing the truth and providing justice to both Agus and Wahab.

Abdul Wahab Abdul Kadir Jilani

Under pressure

Last week, Wahab, who is at the heart of a scandal involving a video that has gone viral, lodged a police report where he alleged that Agus sexually harassed him.

Wahab did not share the recent allegation during his joint press conference with Agus on Nov 17, which was held to explain the viral video.

The video featured two men engaging in a flirtatious conversation, but Wahab had claimed during the press conference that the original video that he recorded had no audio.

During the press conference, Wahab claimed that he was made a scapegoat to frame his former superior for certain purposes.

Last week, however, Wahab went to the Kajang district police headquarters with his lawyer Faizal Abd Rahman to file a police report, claiming that his actions were to clear his name following the release of the video.

Wahab also admitted that he was under pressure due to the controversy involving him and Agus.

Following this, Razarudin reportedly confirmed that police opened a separate investigation under Section 354 of the Penal Code for outraging modesty and Section 377D for the offence of committing an indecent act.
