The Magistrate’s Court in Kota Kinabalu has ordered a 53-year-old politician to enter his defence over four counts of molesting an Unduk Ngadau contestant.
Unduk Ngadau Kaamatan is a beauty pageant held annually during the Kaamatan cultural event in Sabah.
According to Borneo Post, Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie made the order yesterday after ruling that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against Phillip Among @ Daniel Dell Fidelis.
The defence trial was fixed on Feb 19, 22 and 23 next year.
Philip was charged under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which provides for punishment of up to 10 years in jail, a fine and whipping or any two of the three punishments.
Alleged assault counts
On Oct 31, another Magistrate’s Court had ordered Philip to enter his defence over a separate incident where he allegedly molested a woman in the living room of a premise in Asia City Hotel at 11pm on Apr 17.
As for the Unduk Ngadau contestant, he was accused of molesting her at four different locations around Kota Kinabalu - at a studio at the Asia City Hotel, inside a car, at the staircase beside a photo studio and at an office at the Metro Town business centre - at 3.30pm, 9.45pm, 2pm and 10pm, respectively, on May 19.
As reported by Borneo Post, Phillip was a technical head for the state-level Unduk Ngadau competition and the victim was one of the contestants.
Previously, Malaysiakini reported that the Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku Rakyat Sabah (Star) Putatan parliamentary constituency coordinator has been suspended from the party over this matter.
Star secretary-general Guan Dee Koh Hoi had said at the time that Philip informed the party he was also being investigated for allegedly assaulting a Kadazandusun Cultural Association Sabah security guard. - Mkini
