PETALING JAYA: Two PAS leaders have hit back at Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for describing the Islamic party as “divorce crazy” in shooting down the prospect of working with PAS again.
PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari described Zahid as “the captain of a sinking ship” whose sailors dared not correct him but only acted as yes-men.
The Pasir Mas MP told FMT that PAS would continue to try and “save” Umno leaders and members from perishing with this “sinking ship”.
“(We will try to save them) either by saving Umno’s ship or inviting them to join other ships. There will be no end to efforts to unite the ummah,” he added.
Fadhli also dismissed Zahid’s “divorce crazy” label for PAS and said the reality is that the Islamic party is enjoying greater support from the Malay community compared to Umno.
“The reality is that he has not made use of his position as deputy prime minister and rural and regional development minister to win over voters in rural areas, especially the Malays.”
Earlier today, Zahid said PAS should put an end to its dream of being with Umno, describing the Islamic party as “divorce crazy” for wanting to work with the Barisan Nasional lynchpin again.
This came after PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the Perikatan Nasional component is open to working with Umno again despite the “bitter” history between them.
When contacted again, Tuan Ibrahim said Umno could continue being a lackey to DAP if it did not want to work with PAS through PN, adding that his offer was about uniting the ummah.
