Bersatu rallies to Muhyiddin, targets Anwar amid internal strife rumours

Bersatu supreme council has unanimously decided to back the party’s struggle under Muhyiddin Yassin’s presidency.

Party secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin said this amidst rumours of an internal war between his faction and Muhyiddin’s.

“In strategising concrete steps forward, the supreme council has unanimously (decided to) continue the struggle under the leadership of Muhyiddin.

“This is not only in the context of empowering the party as a whole, but to be seen as more credible, firm and brave in fighting the malicious slander and tyranny of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s government,” he said in a statement.

Hamzah added that the party has appointed three new supreme council members - Padang Serai MP Azman Nasrudin, Taman Medan assemblyperson Afif Bahardin and Bersatu Youth assistant secretary Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi.

A recent Harapan Daily report claimed that there was an internal faction war within Bersatu, with rumours that Hamzah’s post as secretary-general would be taken over by Azmin Ali.

The report alleged that Hamzah would be fired during yesterday’s meeting and Muhyiddin would replace him in the role.

This was allegedly due to challenges posed by Hamzah’s faction within the party, reportedly backed by Ronald Kiandee and Mas Ermieyati Samsudin.

However, Hamzah announced today that Azmin would be appointed as the new Selangor Bersatu chief.

Meanwhile, Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu was removed as the party's Negeri Sembilan chief and replaced with Labu assemblyperson Mohamad Hanifah Abu Baker.

Previously, Negeri Sembilan Perikatan Nasional complained that Faizal had neglected the state chapter.
