Cops probe claim PN tried to bribe King to topple govt

IGP Razarudin Husain said the police received four reports over claims the opposition attempted to bribe the palace.

PETALING JAYA: The police have opened an investigation paper into claims that Perikatan Nasional (PN) attempted to bribe the King to topple the government.

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said the investigation is being carried out under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation, and Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998 for misuse of network facilities.

“The police received four reports regarding the issue,” he said in a statement this evening, urging the public not to speculate.

The investigation follows a blog post claiming that PN secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin had allocated RM1 billion to the palace to help topple the unity government.

Hamzah’s aide, Ikhwan Fadhli, denied the allegation and lodged a police report.

Separately, Razarudin revealed that four people had their statements recorded over the “Dubai Move”.

They are community communications department (J-Kom) deputy director-general Ismail Yusop, Wan Azri Wan Deris, whose alter ego is believed to be Papagomo, Bersatu member Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as Chegubard, and social media influencer Salim Iskandar.

Razarudin said the police have received a total of 145 reports regarding the matter.

The “Dubai Move” refers to an alleged meeting involving certain political leaders in Dubai to orchestrate a plan to lure MPs into retracting their support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. - FMT
