PETALING JAYA: Johor police will investigate a policeman, allegedly a station head, who was caught on video in April last year assaulting a suspect accused of breaking into an eatery.
Footage which surfaced on social media shows a man repeatedly slapping another person he was standing over.
Johor police chief Kamarul Zaman Mamat told FMT the video was recorded on April 15, 2023, the same day the suspect was arrested.
He said the policeman would be transferred immediately.
“His actions are unacceptable. I will initiate an investigation under the Penal Code (for voluntarily causing hurt) and hold a disciplinary inquiry,” he said.
Kamarul said the police were only alerted to the incident today after the 36-second video was shared on social media, leading to the policeman being taken to task over his conduct.
Bernama quoted Kamarul as saying the man was named in the video as a sergeant-major who is the Sri Gading police station’s chief.
Kamarul urged witnesses to come forward and lodge a report if they had any information. - FMT
