Economic Minister Rafizi Ramli has debunked concerns that Malaysians can be locked out of registering for a Central Database Hub (Padu) account by others.
This was after former Bangi MP Ong Kian Ming called on the public to register for an account quickly, citing concerns regarding identity theft.
This is as the input for MyKad, email, phone number, and password is done before the user is verified through the Electronic Know-Your-Customer (e-KYC) process.
To prove this, Ong registered accounts for Human Resources Minister Steven Sim, Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching and Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Liew Chin Tong.

Responding to this in a social media update, Rafizi said account registration on Padu is not completed until the e-KYC process is completed.
"Until the e-KYC is completed, the registration is not complete, and invalid," he said.
The e-KYC process requires users to take photos of their MyKad, as well as a selfie, to verify their identity.
Rafizi said the e-KYC was done last to make it easier for registration, as the process may take several tries.
The minister added that in the event identity theft does occur, users can contact Padu either online, through call centres, or at physical counters.
Malaysiakini was made to understand that the Padu help desk would then help unlock any accounts that had been assigned a password by a third party.
Fast registration process
Meanwhile, Rafizi also denied that the e-KYC verification will take three days.
He said that while it is true that the industry standard for e-KYC verification can take up to three days, the actual process for Padu has taken just around five minutes.
Likewise, he said the one-time password (OTP) delays suffered by Celcom users had been resolved around 3.30pm.
As to why user information on Padu is incomplete despite being touted as being a nexus for multiple agency databases, the minister indicated this was a security feature.
According to Rafizi, the complete data from the government - including sensitive information such as wages, EPF savings and so on - is intentionally hidden from users.
He said this sensitive data is not uploaded to the server that users connect to and that only very basic data had been uploaded by the government.
The complete data from the government’s side is instead held on a separate server to avoid breaches.
Rafizi said the information keyed in by users will be integrated with the main Padu server where the data will be cross-checked, verified and updated.
The government is touting Padu as a means to fine-tune the distribution of aid and subsidies to ensure that only those who are legitimately eligible for such help will receive it. - Mkini
