Police arrest enforcement officer in Sabah drug syndicate case

Deputy inspector-general of police Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the 43-year-old man had previously served in Sabah before being transferred to the Klang Valley.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested an officer with an enforcement agency for his role as a “transporter” for Sabah’s biggest meth distribution syndicate on Dec 29.

Deputy inspector-general of police Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the 43-year-old had previously served in Sabah before being transferred to the Klang Valley.

“This takes our arrests under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 to 11 people now,” he said at a press conference in Bukit Aman.

Ayob did not rule out the possibility of more arrests in the case.

He said 22 bank accounts with a combined total of RM420,000 had been frozen and 18 luxury vehicles worth RM6.6 million had been seized.

Police also seized RM35,000 in cash, jewellery and a Rolex watch worth RM100,000.

At the end of last month, police had arrested a local man with a “Datuk” title, who was the patron of an NGO. He was alleged to be the mastermind of the biggest drug syndicate in Sabah.

He was believed to have been active in meth distribution since 2015. - FMT
