TEACHERS play an exceedingly huge role towards nation building and that involves cultivating the next generation of leaders.
But despite their oversized responsibility, do they enjoy a paycheck that reflects their contribution to us?
According to netizen Encik DinDin on X, teachers nowadays have a higher pay.
“Those who are not too far from my age of 34 years old now have a pay that is more than RM8,000. My sisters are all teachers and I thought their salary wasn’t high,” he said.
His post has since been picked up by numerous netizens who voiced their skepticism.
Netizen kyuhaenna said those starting their work do not have such a privilege, that her younger brother’s salary was below RM3,000.
Adding weight to her comment was Cha Joowan who claimed freshies get about RM2,500 during their first year and that does not include even a bonus.
@p3k was also unconvinced, saying that he was now 35 years old and has yet to reach the RM7,000 mark.
It would appear that the majority are in disagreement with Encik DinDin’s statement. Another netizen said that the pay scale is very much in accordance with the grade.
One netizen added that his mother and father who were teachers only achieved a pay of RM8,000 and that they were nearing their retirement.
Hafidz Hamzah observed that teachers at the age of 34 are just about to enter the grade DG44.
“Are there any teachers aged 34 years old who get a salary of RM8,000?” he wondered, to which there was no response.
As much as we wish that a teacher, being a noble profession, could enjoy a better salary, it appears that Encik DinDin‘s statement may have veered away from reality.
However, teachers who provide tuition services or run a similar service should have no trouble passing the RM8,000 mark.
Perhaps Encik DinDin might want to add such a consideration into his computation. —Focus Malaysia
