PKR president Anwar Ibrahim says the decision was made to ensure the party’s strength could be mobilised in an organised manner.

He said Tengku Zafrul Aziz, the prime minister’s senior political adviser and a member of PKR’s political bureau, would assist the president’s office in coordinating the party’s election efforts.
“I have given Tengku Zafrul full mandate to coordinate on my behalf and with the secretariat,” he said in his winding-up speech at the 2026 PKR congress at the Melaka International Trade Centre.
Anwar said the decision was made to ensure the party’s strength could be mobilised in an organised manner, while giving the new leadership team room to play its role in preparing for the elections.
Anwar stressed that the party could no longer have alternative systems or different chains of command in managing its election machinery, but instead must operate through a single system and clear leadership.
He also touched on the position of his daughter, Nurul Izzah, who has temporarily relinquished her duties as PKR deputy president.
“For Nurul Izzah, this is her last speech as deputy president for now. Next year, I don’t know.
“If she has drawn on the philosophy of Marcus Aurelius, then Nurul Izzah is safe. It means she is only taking a temporary leave, and we will welcome her again.”
He also announced that PKR vice-president Saifuddin Nasution Ismail would temporarily perform the duties of deputy president to fill the vacancy. - FMT
