SUBANG JAYA:
Amanah is confident of winning five seats in the upcoming Melaka state election, with party vice-president Hatta Ramli describing four of them as being “nearly” assured of.

While Amanah is contesting seven seats in total, Hatta said the party had high hopes for five of these constituencies.

“Of these five, I can say that we are already nearly there with four of them. So we want to make sure we secure five,” he said at a press conference after the Selangor Amanah convention here.

Amanah is contesting seven seats in the Melaka polls, including the Bukit Katil seat that former chief minister Adly Zahari is seeking to defend.

The others are the Malay-majority seats of Kuala Linggi, Taboh Naning, Telok Mas, Merlimau and Sungai Rambai, as well as the mixed seat of Durian Tunggal.

In the 2021 Melaka polls, Amanah contested nine seats but won only one: Bukit Katil.

Hatta said his confidence on an improved performance this time around was based on the candidates put forward as well as the results of the 15th general election in Melaka (GE15).

Despite PH’s poor performance in the November 2021 state polls, he said the coalition’s haul of three parliamentary seats in GE15 was due to a wave of support from certain state constituencies.

The Election Commission has set Nov 14 as polling day for the Melaka polls, with early voting taking place on Nov 10. - FMT
