The party has sent four iPad teams from its headquarters to assist campaigners on the ground to carry out tasks such as helping voters to check their polling station while on the house-to-house campaign.
“This by-election is the first time we are testing this gadget. It’s basically still on trial for some modules we created for this software to assist the election campaigners.
“We believe it will be in full force in the Merlimau by-election,” said MCA Youth chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong.
Apart from that, the team’s tasks include compiling data based on certain modules being developed by the party’s technology department, as well as to record and compile feedback, as well as complaints.
The iPad was designed to served as a platform for audio-visual media, including books, periodicals, movies, music, games, and web content but in this by-election, it is an important tool to assist campaign workers on the ground.
Weighing about 680 grams, its size and weight fall between those of contemporary smartphones and laptop computers, making it very light and easy to carry, rather than laptop computers which are heavier.
Moreover, the iPad uses a Wi-Fi data connection to browse the Internet, load and stream media, and install software while some models also have a 3G wireless data connection which can connect to HSPA data networks.
“It’s very good and fast as you can immediately tell the voters where they can go to vote. The only setback is sometimes, it depends on the 3G network connection. Here in Labis, the connection is not that great but still, we can use it to assist the voters,” said Wee.
The Tenang state by-election on January 30, which is to be held following the death of Datuk Sulaiman Taha of Barisan Nasional (BN) on December 17, is a straight fight between BN’s Mohd Azahar Ibrahim and Normala Sudirman of PAS. – Bernama
