Special committee to look after former Kelantan Sultan’s interests

January 23, 2011

KOTA BHARU, Jan 23 – The Kelantan government has established a special committee called the Former Kelantan Sultan, Sultan Ismail Petra’s Privileges and Safety Monitoring Committee.

State Secretary Datuk Mohd Aiseri Alias said the setting up of the committee, effective December 29 last year, was aimed at looking after the interests, privileges and safety of the former Sultan, as wished for and consented by the present Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammed V.

Speaking to reporters at his office in Kota Darulnaim, here, today, he said this was to ensure that the privileges approved by the state government continued to be accorded to Sultan Ismail Petra.

“This is also to ensure that Sultan Ismail Petra receives appropriate medical treatment and care at all times and that a suitable panel of doctors be determined and appointed to treat him.”

Mohd Aiseri, who is also the chairman of the special committee, said the committee was responsible for preparing a report every two weeks on the health status of Sultan Ismail Petra before it being presented to the Kelantan Sultan.

“With the setting up of this special committee, the medical panel appointed previously by the state government (for the former Sultan) was thus abolished.”

Mohd Aiseri said the committee also had the duty of ensuring that the safety of Sultan Ismail Petra in and outside the palace was always under control.

“The committee will meet once a month,” he said.

The secretary of the committee is the new Palace comptroller, Datuk Ahmad Mahmood, and it has six other members.

They are Kelantan Medical director Dr Mohd Kamil Hassan, Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital director Datuk Dr Ghazali Hasni Hassan, Kelantan police deputy chief ACP Mazlan Lazim, Health director of Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital (HUSM) Kubang Kerian, Prof Datuk Dr Mafauzy Mohamed and Prof Datuk Dr Wan Mohammad Wan Bebakar, also from HUSM.

From this year, the Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammed V’s official birthday celebration has been set for November 11 and 12 annually.

Mohd Aiseri said the state government had last December 1, agreed to these new dates, instead of March 30 and 31 as it was in previous years.

As such, November 11 and 12, will be public holidays in Kelantan and this was gazetted on December 23, last year.

The actual birthday of Sultan Muhammad V is October 6. – Bernama
