Six months have passed since housewife Pua was slain, and her family has heard nothing about investigations.
KLANG: The family of a housewife killed by police last January has yet to receive any information on the progress of investigations into the case, according to Klang MP Charles Santiago.
“It has been six months now and we haven’t heard anything from the police,” Santiago told a press conference today.
“The family will now decide if they should sue the police or hold a protest against them.”
Pua Bee Chun, 22, was shot dead on Jan 13 in Taman Sentosa when police were pursuing a car she was travelling in.
Her husband, Foo Voon Kong, told reporters the police suspected that the driver of the car, Song Chee Chai, was involved in some drug cases they were apparently investigating.
“The policemen who were chasing the car fired a few shots,” he said. “One bullet hit my wife at the back of her neck.”
He complained that the police had not contacted him since the tragedy.
Santiago, who is helping the family liaise with the authorities at Foo’s request, said he had written to Selangor police chief Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah for an explanation.
“We want to know why they shot her, who shot her and what were they thinking when they fired their guns,” he added.
“Tun Hisan replied that there was no need to discuss the issue, saying the police would inform the family of the victim of developments in the investigation.”
He said he had since learned that Tun Hisan went on leave on May 13 and would resume his duties in early July.

Foo said several people in Taman Sentosa had told him that footage from their CCTVs were erased after the police seized the recordings.
Santiago said the recent rise in extrajudicial killings strengthened the need for a commission to investigate police misconduct.
