A non-governmental organisation described as regressive the move by minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Shahidan Kassim (pic) to limit the parliament only to members of parliament.
Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall’s Youth wing chief Robert Lua Khang Wei urged the BN government to emulate countries such as Australia, Canada and New Zealand where parliament's roles are wide.
Lua said in Canada there is a press room while Australia has friendship groups for civil societies in parliament.
“More impressive is the parliament in New Zealand that allows its people, students and children to picnic around the parliament,” added Lua.
Lua said Shahidan should strive towards ensuring that Malaysia remains a 'first class democracy', quoting a phrase used by prime minister Najib Razak.
Shahidan, the former Perlis Menteri Besar, said he would ensure that the Parliament building will be out of bounds for non-MPs.
