PAS files election petition over Klawang seat

PAS candidate, former Bank Negara deputy director Rosli Yaakop, lost the state seat by a wafer-thin majority of 282 votes.
SEREMBAN: Negeri Sembilan PAS filed a petition with regard to the 13th general election with the high court here today.
The petition is to challenge the outcome of the Klawang state seat (under the Jelebu parliamentary constituency), where PAS candidate Dr Rosli Yaakop lost by a mere 282 votes to BN’s Yunus Rahmat.
Rosli, a former Bank Negara deputy director, told reporters before filing the petition that there were at least two irregularities during the campaign period.
“We have the merit to file this case as there is evidence of vote buying which is clearly against the election laws.
“We will submit the evidence in court. We cannot reveal details of the evidence now but will reveal it in court when the hearing starts,” he said.
“Even if the outcome of the petition is not in favour to me or PAS, what is important is the petition and the evidence will send a strong message to the rakyat that there was fraud during the election,” he added.
The petition, Rosli said, would also highlight the weaknesses of the Election Commission.
“We hope the court will be fair,” he added.
Negeri Sembilan PAS commissioner Mohd Taufek Abdul Ghani said that another basis to file the petition is that it is in accordance with PAS central leadership’s decision to challenge the outcome of seats where the party’s candidates were defeated by less than 1,000 votes.
“Overall, PAS will file 16 petitions nationwide,” he added.
Lawyer Faiz Fadzil, the son of former PAS president Fadzil Noor, will represent Rosli in relation to his petition.
