PETALING JAYA, Oct 29 — The inconsistent statements of four security guards on how they lost RM2 million during a heist on Monday night left police with no choice but to arrest them.
The four guards working for a security company had collected the money from several banks in Equine Park, Seri Kembangan.
Instead of heading straight to their office, they stopped by a restaurant for dinner in Lestari Perdana.
Selangor police chief Datuk Abdul Samah Mat said the driver of the armoured vehicle claimed he was tired and took a nap in it while his three colleagues dined at the restaurant.
“In their statements, the driver claimed two men, one armed with a gun, appeared out of nowhere and forcefully entered the van,” he said.
The driver said he was tied up and blindfolded during the 9pm incident.
“He claimed the two men drove to an empty car park at a deserted shoplot area in Taman Equine,” Abdul Samah said.
“He said the men abandoned the van and the driver 2km from the restaurant before fleeing with the cash.
“The driver said he was not hurt and alerted the police after he freed himself.”
Police detained the four, aged between 20 and 40, because of the inconsistencies in their statements.
“We have reasons to believe the incident could be an inside job and we detained the men to facilitate investigations,” Abdul Samah said.
He said the four did not follow procedures as they had stopped for dinner with a van loaded with cash.  -MM
