KOTA KINABALU - The Italian man who was reported missing in Lahad Datu on Oct 18 has been found safe and sound on Zamboanga Island in the Philippines.
Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said from the information received, William Bocchi left for one of the island tourist destinations from the jetty in Sandakan on Oct 14.
“We traced his every movement, from the closed circuit television to the people who had observed him, and his registration at the place where he stayed before exiting by boat from the jetty to Zamboanga on Oct 18.
“We understand that he was on holiday...there was no incident of abduction or disappearance.
“When he did not return, his family informed the embassy which later contacted one of his friends here,” Jalaluddin told reporters here today.
Jalaluddin said the embassy had sent a letter of appreciation to the Sabah Police for their cooperation.
Bocchi, 52, was reported missing by a friend after he failed to return to Italy last Saturday as scheduled.
Earlier, the police commissioner accompanied Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar on a visit to the Gaya Island Police Station.– BERNAMA
