Rakyat accept, understand GST implementation

The majority of the rakyat are aware that GST is necessary to strengthen the economy.

KUALA LUMPUR: The majority of the rakyat understand the government’s efforts to implement the Goods and Services Tax (GST) effective April 1 next year, says Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan.

He told the Dewan Rakyat that the majority of the rakyat are aware that the GST is necessary to strengthen the economy and important for the development of the country.

The deputy minister said while people were concerned with the issue of the rise in price of goods, the government had taken several initiatives to reduce the impact of GST.

In fact, Ahmad said the timing for the implementation of the GST on April 1, 2015, was ideal considering the current stability of the economy and while inflation is under control at 3.3 per cent.

He said 76,315 companies had registered for the GST as of yesterday (Monday). – Bernama
