NILAI - An academic chair has been created to honour the late father of Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin by Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (Usim).
The Tuan Guru Mohd Yassin Muhammad Islamic Leadership Chair was launched by Muhyiddin today at the university.
Former Universiti Sains Malaysia vice-chancellor Prof Tan Sri Dzulkifli Abdul Razak was appointed the first holder of the chair beginning last August. It is the university's second academic chair, established in collaboration with the Nurul Yaqeen Foundation, which is chaired by the deputy prime minister. Located at Usim’s Faculty of Leadership and Management, it will have an initial fund of RM500,000 for a year.
The chair was named after Mohd Yassin in recognition of the leadership qualities of the ulama and educationist, who was progressive, proactive and had the ability to champion the interests of the Malay agenda and Islamic development in Malaysia during his lifetime, particularly through education and administration. -NST
