1MDB report retyped to protect source, says Sarawak Report editor

Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown has explained the reasons behind the whistleblower site retyping the alleged auditor-general’s report on 1MDB.
Responding to those who raised doubts over the authenticity of the report since it was retyped, Rewcastle-Brown said it was done to “minimise opportunities” for those who want to blame the messengers and trace the leak.
“Frankly, if I was publishing straight photocopies then the same doubt-mongers would claim I could have forged the photocopies, so the veracity of this document rests on more concrete and common sense proofs,” she told Malaysiakini in an email communique.
“If I am a massive forger, it does not need me to display photocopies of my hard copy of the report to prove that,” she added.
The government, she said, possessed the relevant information at its disposal and could file a libel action if she had printed untruths.
Meanwhile, Rewcastle-Brown said if the original report was released, it could then be compared and contrasted with report published on her website.
“Why has no one at all denied my evidence and quotes so far?
“How could I and why would I make up a complex 330-page auditor's document in Malay, packed with details relating to finance, testimonies and interviews that I could not possibly have had access to?” she asked.
She also noted that BN members in the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) had yet to point out the parts which were allegedly doctored, if Sarawak Report had indeed forged the report.

“Why do all the excerpts and comments of the auditor-general which I have published perfectly match the other facts that we know from other sources, even though much of this information was previously unknown?" she said.
She further pointed out how details from the data have also been acknowledged to be true, citing a Bloomberg report published yesterday quoting UBS Group AG officials admitting to figures she had previously published.Mkini
The whistleblower site yesterday said it would publish in full the alleged auditor-general's report on 1MDB, which is still sealed under the Official Secrets Act (OSA). -
