Malaysian student among those injured in Nice attack, says report

A Malaysian student from a Singaporean university was injured in the truck-ramming attack in Nice, France, but is currently in stable condition at a French hospital, The Straits Times reported.
The 22-year old, Esmond Chuah, is a third-year student from the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD).
He is among 12 other SUTD students who are in Nice for a three-week summer programme that began on July 3, and were due to come back next week.
According to the Singapore English daily, the matter was confirmed by a university spokesman, who said his condition is "not life-threatening", although he declined to comment on how Chuah got injured.
"He is now in stable condition in the hospital and in contact with his parents," the spokesman reportedly said, adding that the 11 other SUTD students are safe and accounted for.
The report stated that Chuah was with a group of students from other schools when the incident happened and not all of his schoolmates were present at the time.
The daily quoted SUTD President Professor Thomas Magnanti as saying that they are in contact with all relevant authorities, including the Singaporean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, embassies, and working with the International SOS to provide on-ground support and counselling.
The university officials also assured that they are doing all they can to support and update the students and their parents.
The other 11 students have been advised to remain in their hostel and pay attention to the safety instructions of the French authorities. The third-year student's father, Chuah Tze Leng, had posted an appeal on his Facebook account at about 4pm today asking for any information on his son's whereabouts.

"Please find my son Esmond Chuah Hooi Ong (SUTD Singapore) who injured himself in the Nice, France attack this morning. Wish to know his condition now," read the elder Chuah's post.
At least 84 people were killed when a terrorist drove a truck into crowds during the Bastille Day celebration in Nice on Thursday evening.
Wisma Putra had earlier released a statement that no Malaysians were affected in the Nice attack.-Mkini
