STATE POLLS | Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan has proceeded to sue Perikatan Nasional's N26 Sungai Ramal candidate Shafie Ngah over alleged defamatory statements made against him at two separate functions.
In a statement on Facebook, Syahredzan said his lawyer had on July 12 sent a letter of demand to Shafie, who is also Bangi PAS division chief.
"The letter of demand, among others, seeks an apology and compensation over several statements made by Shafie about me during two Bangi PN functions, first in October last year and the other last month," said Syahredzan yesterday.
"However, Shafie has refused to fulfil my demands as stated in the letter.
"Therefore, on July 27, my lawyer filed a writ of summons and a notice of demand at the High Court in Kuala Lumpur against Shafie," said the DAP lawmaker.
Aside from compensation, Syahredzan said he was also demanding an apology and an interim injunction to prevent Shafie from repeating the defamatory remarks.
"I have previously warned any parties who made defamatory statements against me, that I will not hesitate to defend my rights," he stressed.
Sungai Ramal is one of three state seats under the Bangi parliamentary seat and Shafie is in a straight contest against Pakatan Harapan's incumbent from Amanah, Mazwan Johar. - Mkini
