Harapan Youth chief accepts Syed Saddiq's debate challenge

STATE POLLS | Pakatan Harapan Youth chief Kelvin Yii has accepted the debate challenge by Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

This comes after his PKR counterpart declined the Muar MP's invitation, for the time being.

In a series of tweets, Yii (above) said he was just made aware of the challenge online, as he was focused on the campaign trail for the upcoming state elections.

"The topic of debate (youth-related issues) is a very important topic and something that is not just close to my heart, but pivotal to the agenda of the unity government which prioritises issues important to youth including high-valued jobs, quality education, affordable housing, energy transition environmental protection and others...

"And thus in that spirit, I as the Harapan Youth chief, accept the challenge for us to debate on all these matters on an agreed time and condition set by all parties involved," he said, further declaring his work obligations for the coming week, including representing the government at an Asean-level assembly in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Upon his return, Yii said he is willing to arrange a suitable time for the debate.

"Looking forward to the arrangement, and let's have a healthy debate purely focusing on the interests of the young people and the importance of bringing stability and shared prosperity to all in our beloved nation."

Yesterday, PKR Youth chief Adam Adli Abdul Halim rejected Syed Saddiq's debate invitation and suggested new candidates in the Aug 12 state polls be given the platform instead.

Meanwhile, PAS Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, whom Syed Saddiq had also invited for the debate, agreed to the idea.

"I have no issues accepting this challenge. I am liaising with Syed Saddiq's team to set a time and place for the debate.

"Debating is a healthy culture in society. I have no problems having the debate anywhere, anytime, and not only during the state elections season," he was quoted as telling Sinar Harian. - Mkini
