The Pakatan Harapan election machinery for the Sungai Kandis state constituency has submitted a police report over an alleged discrepancy in the vote count during the Selangor state election on Saturday.
According to Harian Metro, the report was filed by Shaari Abdul Malik, who is the representative of Harapan’s Sungai Kandis candidate Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni at the Shah Alam police headquarters today.
Shaari highlighted that the election machinery found a discrepancy at a polling centre within the constituency concerning the issue of 1,964 unreturned votes.
"Although we lost (the seat) by only 167 votes, it is highly doubtful that all the votes stated were not included in the ballot box.
"We did raise objections (at the polling centre), but they (the complaints) went unheard, so we filed a police report and a court petition for further action," the Malay daily quoted him as saying.
Yesterday, it was reported that Harapan-BN is considering filing petitions to invalidate the results of several state seats won by Perikatan Nasional in Selangor.
Selangor Harapan chairperson Amirudin Shari said the seats include those won by razor-thin majorities, such as Dengkil (407 vote majority), Sungai Kandis (167), Gombak Setia (58) and Taman Medan (30).
The contest for Sungai Kandis was won by PN’s Wan Dzahanurin Ahmad after securing 28,926 votes, defeating Zawawi (28,759 votes) and Muda’s Afriena Shaqira Sariff (1,341 votes). - Mkini
